Mental Hygiene: Don't forget to wash your soul!
Spiritual Hygiene: The 'Beauty' Ritual we’ve been forgetting

We’re taught from a young age to take care of our physical hygiene—showering daily, brushing our teeth, putting on fresh clothes. It’s routine, second nature, a non-negotiable. And yet, so many of us go days, weeks—even entire seasons—without tending to our mental hygiene.
Here’s the truth: mental hygiene is just as essential. If you want to feel good every day, handle life with more grace, and move through your world feeling clear, resilient, and empowered—mental hygiene is not optional. It’s foundational.
Research continues to show that mental self-care can dramatically lower the risk of burnout and mental illness, boost quality of life, and deepen your emotional intelligence. The best part? It doesn’t require hours of effort. A few mindful minutes daily can recalibrate your entire nervous system and shift the energy of your whole week.
Let me get real with you for a moment. I just started a new job recently — back to the 8:30 to 5 grind accompanied with some part time Hospitality hours over the weekend. I’ve been feeling it. Add in a never-ending list of personal responsibilities and a laundry pile that could bring my mother to her knees… and yeah, I’ve been tempted to fall into two all-too-familiar traps.
Trap one: Push through. Grit your teeth. Power ahead until you crash.
Trap two: The modern “self-care” narrative of comfort—cancel everything, rest endlessly, and avoid hard things in the name of listening to your body.
Both extremes can be harmful if they’re not grounded in actual self-awareness and intentionality.
So what’s the middle ground? What’s the soul-nourishing, energy-protecting answer?
Routine. Ritual. Rhythm.
Just like brushing your teeth, mental hygiene needs to become part of your daily rhythm. It doesn’t need to be complex or time-consuming. A few sacred minutes can help you release what no longer serves, reset your energy, and reconnect with your true self.
Here are a few of my favourite daily practices that take under 5 minutes:
🌬 Morning Grounding (Meditation or Visualisation)
We’ve heard about meditation a thousand times for a reason—it works. Even just five minutes of visualizing your Divine self, doing breathwork, or speaking powerful affirmations can change your internal state. The goal? Start the day grounded, grateful, and clear.
✂️ Evening Cord-Cutting Ritual
Before bed, I do a quick visualisation where I cut energetic cords from the day—conversations, emotional attachments, stressors. I imagine scissors in my hands and see those ties dissolving. It’s like a VR spiritual cleanse when you really let yourself feel it. Here's a mantra to couple with the visualisation "I now release any energies that are not mine, sending them back to their rightful owner as love, I also call back my energy to me and cut any energetic cords I may have created today intentionally or unintentionally" short and sweet.
🚿 Shower Meditation
During your evening shower, visualize the water washing off not just dirt, but energy. Imagine stress, tension, other people’s energy sliding off your body and swirling down the drain. Let it all go.
These are small practices. But they’re sacred. They keep your inner world clean, light, and strong.
Because you deserve to feel good—not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and energetically. Make mental hygiene your new non-negotiable, and watch how your energy, mood, and momentum shift.
Your mind deserves the same love you give your body.
